Medication Assisted Treatment
At HealthFirst, we believe recovery is personal, and that every person deserves care that is compassionate, respectful, and free from judgment. Our Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) program takes a whole-person approach, combining medications with counseling, behavioral health support, and care coordination to support your health and recovery goals.
Our team understands that reaching out for help can be difficult. We are here to meet you where you are, listen to what you need, and work with you to develop a plan that feels supportive and realistic for your life. Whether you are beginning your recovery journey or looking for continued support, you don’t have to navigate it alone.
Recovery services are available to HealthFirst primary care patients. If you are not currently a HealthFirst patient, a member of our team can help you establish care and connect with the support you need.

Why Medication Assisted Treatment & Recovery Services?
Medication Assisted Treatment & Recovery Services uses a combination of medication and behavioral therapies for the treatment of substance use disorders. The MAT program at HealthFirst utilizes Suboxone, Sublocade, or Vivitrol to assist patients seeking recovery from substance use disorder.
While medication is effective, it is only one part of our treatment program for substance use disorders. Participants in our MAT program also participate in counseling with a Licensed Drug and Alcohol Counselor and/or a behavioral health specialist to learn effective long-term coping strategies.
Our integrated clinical model allows patients to have access to our MAT clinical team, which includes a medical provider, a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor, a behavioral health provider, and a Certified Recovery Support Worker. This interdisciplinary team approach works to support all patients to determine the appropriate level of care for them.
Is MAT the Right Option?
The best way to determine if MAT is the best option for you is to speak with our team. They will conduct a review of health information to evaluate your needs and work with you to create an individualized treatment plan that sets you up for success.

Symptoms of Substance Use Disorder:
Substance use can affect everyone differently. Some people may experience several of the following signs or symptoms:
- Wanting to cut down or stop using alcohol or other substances but finding it difficult to do so
- Continuing to use alcohol or other substances even when use is causing problems with health, work, school, or relationships
- Developing a tolerance, meaning needing more of a substance to experience the same effect
- Experiencing withdrawal symptoms when reducing or stopping use. Symptoms can vary depending on the substance and may include sweating, shaking, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, body aches, anxiety, irritability, or a runny nose
- Spending a great deal of time obtaining, using, or recovering from the effects of alcohol or other substances
- Having strong urges or cravings to use
- Finding that substance use interferes with responsibilities at home, work, or school
- Giving up or reducing activities, relationships, or interests that were once important or enjoyable because of substance use
- Continuing to use even when you recognize that it may be affecting your physical or emotional well-being
Your Safety Matters
Your safety is our priority. If you are considering stopping or reducing alcohol, benzodiazepines, opioids, or other substances, please talk with a healthcare professional before making changes on your own. Withdrawal can be uncomfortable and, with some substances, can become serious or life-threatening. Our team can help you understand your options, assess your needs, and create a safe plan for treatment and recovery. If you are experiencing a medical emergency or believe you may be in immediate danger, call 911 or seek emergency medical care
